My Story

Leading With Conviction

Conviction is not something you should borrow from anyone else. You must uniquely own it. It is undoubtedly the single greatest, self-defining motivator of an individual. And the tragedy is, so many live without one. Many don’t know what they really believe, and they can’t define their purpose. Our lives are filled with the wonders of family, friendship, fame, fortune, and fun… but often lack a cause to die for. There is a personal mission for each one of us to discover. And we cannot afford to miss the daily opportunities to make a difference in the world around us.

Jason inspires us to lead with conviction. To make choices that are intentional, strategic, passionate, and uncompromising in their purpose. To identify what is most important to us, and do something about it.

He founded the Back In Motion Health Group (www.backinmotion.com.au) from his garage in 1999. At its peak, Jason led a team of more than 700 professionals in over 140 locations across Australia and New Zealand. He has made a career out of radically challenging the norm and pioneering fresh business paradigm. The results speak volumes. Jason was listed No.2 Top Franchise Executive in 2019 and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 for Services in the Southern region. And Back In Motion became Australia’s largest and fastest growing provider of physiotherapy and related services – awarded the BRW Fast Franchise for five consecutive years.

Jason has successfully started, grown and sold numerous brands in healthcare including Actif (occupational health), Revita (aged care). and eventually merging Back In Motion with ASX-listed allied health parent Healthia, setting a record for one of the largest transactions recognised in the sector.

Jason shares his vision, drive, and expertise through active leadership in peak bodies, community organisations, CEO groups, and special interest business forums in Australia and beyond. He sits on multiple corporate and NFP boards, and consults widely on leadership, strategy, and governance.

Passionate about the power of effective leadership, Jason established the Iceberg Leadership Institute in 2008. Thousands of aspiring and experienced professionals have benefited from his thought-provoking masterclasses and mentorship since its inception (www.iceberginstitute.com.au).

Jason’s first book, Get Yourself Back In Motion: a physiotherapist’s secrets to pain relief and optimal health (Global Publishing 2013), was an international best-seller. Empowering his readers to live at their physical best, the book stands in a class of its own as an essential medical resource in every home.

His second book, Outside-In Downside-Up Leadership: 50 insights from a true story of remarkable organisational change (Major Press 2018), chronicles a story of courageous innovation and leadership revolution. It has been an instant success with CEOs, entrepreneurs, and the leadership base who want to achieve more with their people.

Jason’s third book, Unlikely: the surprising personal story behind the garage startup that became a $100m national brand, is due to be released in late 2024. Find out more.

Jason regularly appears in the media as a popular contributor and presenter on health, wellness, leadership, and business-related topics. He has authored or contributed to hundreds of articles in a wide variety of publications. As a charismatic and inspiring keynote speaker, Jason has presented to over 60,000 people internationally.

Jason is unrelentingly committed to improving outcomes for those less fortunate. He works with many international poverty, welfare and community development organisations, and was most notably the Chair of the SOS Health Foundation which for 10 years served to improve the health of disadvantaged indigenous Australians.

A devoted husband, and proud father to four young children, Jason loves spending time with his family. He also enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing tennis, travelling, and adventure-seeking, and is active in his local christian church community.
